Questions before
we begin.
Good questions deserve straightforward answers. Here is how CitizenBacked is taking shape.
What is CitizenBacked?
CitizenBacked is a for-profit startup building a way for everyday Americans to pool contributions toward professional lobbying and policy advocacy. Our ambition is to make organized advocacy more accessible to the people affected by federal and state laws.
Can I contribute or create a cause today?
Not yet. CitizenBacked is preparing to launch. You can explore our approach and upcoming priorities, then join the email list to hear when the platform becomes available. We are not accepting contributions, opening accounts, or publishing public cause submissions.
Does contributing guarantee that a law will change?
No. Contributions would fund advocacy work, not a promised legislative outcome. A campaign could receive funding and carry out its planned advocacy without a bill being introduced, voted on, or passed. Lawmakers retain authority over their decisions, and political outcomes are uncertain.
We intend to make the proposed work and campaign updates clear so supporters can assess the effort on its own terms.
What kinds of causes will the platform support?
Our initial focus is center-right and conservative causes, followed by bipartisan movements and nonpartisan priorities. CitizenBacked is being built for policy advocacy across the United States, at both the federal and state levels.
The priorities presented here describe potential areas of advocacy. They are not active fundraising campaigns.
Who decides which causes go live?
Our planned process combines AI-assisted screening with final review by the CitizenBacked admin team. AI would help identify issues for review; people would make the publication decision. Submission rules and review criteria will be published before cause submissions open.
How will CitizenBacked make money?
CitizenBacked plans to retain a percentage of contributions before funds reach lobbying groups. The commission rate and any other charges have not been set. Supporters will need a clear breakdown of fees and intended use of funds before contributing.
What happens if a funding goal is not reached?
Funding deadlines, release thresholds, refunds, and the handling of cancelled campaigns are still being determined. No funds are being collected now. These rules must be published before contributions become available, including what happens if a lobbying partner cannot take on the work.
Are contributions charitable donations?
CitizenBacked is a for-profit business, not a charity. Do not assume that a contribution through CitizenBacked will be tax-deductible. We do not promise a charitable tax deduction.
How do launch alerts work?
With your consent, we save your email address to notify you about CitizenBacked's launch and availability. Joining the list does not create an account or commit you to contributing. Keep the private removal link provided after signup if you want to remove your email from the list.
